Wood County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 121,065 people and a population density of 76 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Bowling Green .

The county is located in northwest Ohio, is about 15 km to the northeast from Lake Erie , the southernmost of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of ​​1,607 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Lucas County , Ottawa County , Sandusky County , Seneca County , Hancock County , Putnam County, and Henry County .

Fort Meigs (2009)

Wood County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Logan County. It was named after Eleazer D. Wood , a graduate of the Military Academy at West Point and an officer in the US Army in the British-American War of 1812-1814. As an army engineer, he was responsible for planning Fort Meigs . Located on a rock above the Maumee River in what is now Perrysburg , the fort was able to hold its own in the battles with the British. The fort gave protection to the settlers who had fled the area because of the war and led to the rapid development of the county.

The county has a National Historic Landmark , Fort Meigs. 31 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 19, 2018).

The median income for a household in the 44,442 USD , and the median income for a family was 56,468 USD. Males had a median income of $ 40,419 versus $ 26,640 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,284. 4.7 percent of families and 9.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. This included 7.4 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 5.8 percent of people aged 65 and over.
