Rossford is a city in Wood County in the US state of Ohio and is located on the Maumee River . According to the 2000 census , the city had 6,406 inhabitants. The city is at the intersection of Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike .

history

Rossford was founded by Edward Ford of the Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company . In 1898, Ford purchased a piece of land about 0.7 km 2 on the Maumee River to build the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company . When the factory started operations, Ford named the resulting town Rossford, combining the name with his own from the surname of his second wife, Caroline Ross. Shortly after the factory was built, Ford created the Ford Club in the immediate vicinity of the factory to allow its workers to relax. In 1998, Rossford had a monument erected near the defunct Ford Club to mark the centenary of the founding of the city. The city's anniversary was celebrated with a parade, a folk festival, a concert and other events.

education

The Rossford School District includes a Public High School for Grades 9 through 12, Rossford High School , Rossford Public Junior High School for Grades 7 and 8, and three public elementary schools, Eagle Point School , Glenwood School , Indian Hills School , leading up to 6th grade. In addition, there is the Catholic All Saints Catholic School , which runs up to 8th grade . The building of the former Lime City School is no longer in use, the Walnut Street School has been demolished. The Alter Elementary School building is now used by All Saints Catholic School .

Demographics

According to the 2000 census , Rossford had 6,446 people; 2610 households and 1743 families were counted. The population density was 575 inhabitants per km². 2736 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 96.3% White, 1.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.8% Asian, and 0.5% from other races; 0.9% indicated the descent from several ethnic groups. 1.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 2,610 households, 32.2% had children or adolescents living with them. 52.4% were married couples living together, 10.9% were a single mother, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.4% were single households and 11.7% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size 3.04.

The population was divided into 25.4% under 18 years of age, 8.7% from 18 to 24 years of age, 29.2% from 25 to 44 years of age, 22.9% from 45 to 64 years of age and 13.8% from 65 years of age or older. The mean age ( median ) was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males and for every 100 adult females aged 18 and over there were 87.7 males.

The median income for a household (median) was 43 776  US $ , and the median income for a family $ 57,442. Males had a median income of $ 40,516 and females $ 27,560. The per capita income was $ 25,119. 2.7% of families and 3.7% of the population lived below the poverty line, including 3.4% of the population under the age of 18 and 3.0% of the population aged 65 or older.
