Auglaize County is a county in the US state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Wapakoneta .

The county is located in western Ohio, about 25 miles from the Indiana border, and covers an area of 1,040 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Allen County , Darke County , Hardin County , Logan County , Shelby County , Mercer County, and Van Wert Counties .
history
Auglaize County was formed on February 14, 1848 from parts of Allen, Darke, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Shelby and Van Wert Counties. It was named after the Auglaize River , which in turn means "felled wood" in the Shawnee language .

As of the 2000 census , Auglaize County had 46,611 people in 17,376 households and 12,771 families. The population density was 45 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.12 percent white , 0.24 percent African American , 0.18 percent American Indian , 0.41 percent Asian American , 0.03 percent Pacific islander and 0.20 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.83 percent were descended from two or more races . 0.67 percent of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
Of the 17,376 households, 35.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.1 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, 26.5 percent were non-families, 23.3 percent were single households, and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.11.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 93.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 43,367 , and the median income for a family is $ 50,024. Males had a median income of $ 37,024 versus $ 23,809 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,593. 4.9 percent of families and 6.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line. 7.2 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.4 percent were people over 65 years of age.
