St. Marys is a city in Auglaize County , Ohio , in the United States. In 2000 the place had a population of 8342.
The lake Grand Lake St. Marys, created in the 19th century, is worth seeing . This is where the Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, established in 1949 , is one of the oldest state parks in Ohio.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 11.3 km² , of which 11.2 km² is land and 0.1 km² (= 0.69%) is water. The city lies on the St. Marys River .
history
St. Marys, historically known by the different names Kettletown , Fort Barbee and Girty's Town , held the county seat between 1824 and 1840 before it was moved to Celina . After the formation of Auglaize County in 1848, the city competed with Wapakoneta for the county seat, but was defeated in a controversial referendum.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, St. Marys were inhabited by 8,342 people. The population density was 743.8 people per km ². There were 3479 housing units at an average of 310.2 per km ². St. Mary's population was 97.49% White , 0.35% Black or African American , 0.13% Native American , 0.98% Asian , 0.02% Pacific Islander , 0.14% said belonging to other races and 0.88% named two or more races. 0.46% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of St. Mary's were distributed to 3218 households out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18. 54.9% of households were married, 10.6% had a female head of household without a husband, and 30.4% were not families. 26.9% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 12.0% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.10.
The population was divided into 28.3% minors, 7.9% 18–24 year olds, 28.5% 25–44 year olds, 20.3% 45–64 year olds and 14.9% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 women there were 94.2 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 88.5 men.
The median household income in St. Marys was 38,673 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 44,247 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 38,371, compared to $ 22,080 for women.
