St. Clairsville is a city in Belmont County , Ohio , United States . It is statistically part of the metropolitan area of Wheeling, West Virginia and the county seat of Belmont County.
geography
St. Clairsville is about 105 kilometers west of Pittsburgh and 195 kilometers east of Columbus . The Ohio River is about 20 km east of the city and can be reached quickly via Interstate 70 between Columbus and Pittsburgh, which runs south of the city and crosses the Ohio River at Wheeling. Other major roads are US 40 and Ohio Route 9 , which intersect in St. Clairsville. The city has an airfield with Alderman Airport, another airfield that can be reached from here is Bradfield Airport in Barnesville .
St. Clairsville has several schools, including Belmont Technical College and the Eastern Campus of Ohio University .
The annual Jamboree in the Hills , one of the largest country festivals in the States, takes place near St. Clairsville . The four-day event attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.

At the 2000 census , the population was 5057. Almost 95% of the population were white , 3% African-American and a little over 1% Asian , the remainder belonged to various ethnic groups. The per capita income was $ 23,416, with a little less than 7% of the population living below the poverty line .
history
In 1796, David Newell established a hilltop settlement in Belmont County called Newellstown. In 1803 Newellstown was renamed St. Clairsville after Arthur St. Clair , who was a general in the Revolutionary War and president of the Continental Congress . St. Clair founded Belmont County on September 7, 1801.
