The county is located in northeast Ohio and has an area of ​​1,441 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Medina County , Summit County , Stark County , Holmes County, and Ashland Counties .

history

Wayne County was formed on January 4, 1812 from parts of Columbiana County. It was named after Anthony Wayne , a statesman and general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War .

As of the 2000 census , Wayne County had 111,564 people in 40,445 households and 29,484 families. The population density was 78 inhabitants per square kilometer.
