Wayne County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Wooster .

The county is located in northeast Ohio and has an area of 1,441 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Medina County , Summit County , Stark County , Holmes County, and Ashland Counties .
history
Wayne County was formed on January 4, 1812 from parts of Columbiana County. It was named after Anthony Wayne , a statesman and general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War .

As of the 2000 census , Wayne County had 111,564 people in 40,445 households and 29,484 families. The population density was 78 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.52 percent white, 1.57 percent African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.66 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.24 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.75 percent of the population.
Of the 40,445 households, 35.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.8 percent were married couples living together, 8.7 percent were single mothers, 27.1 percent were non-families, 22.7 percent were single households and 8.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.17.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.5 men.
The median income for a household in the 41,538 USD , and the median income for a family was 48,294 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,976 versus $ 23,203 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,330. 5.4 percent of families and 8.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 10.6 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 6.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
