Madison County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is London .

The county is located slightly southwest of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1207 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Union County , Franklin County , Pickaway County , Fayette County , Greene County , Clark County, and Champaign Counties .
history
Madison County was formed on February 16, 1810 from parts of Franklin County. It was named after James Madison , the fourth President of the United States and the person who declared war on the British, which led to the British-American War from 1812 to 1814.
Eleven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 11, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Madison County had 40,213 people in 13,672 households and 10,035 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.75 percent white, 6.24 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.73 percent of the population.
Of the 13,672 households, 35.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.2 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers, 26.6 percent were non-families, 22.3 percent were single households and 9.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.06.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.7 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 10.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 117.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 121.3 men.
The median income for a household in the 44,212 USD , and the median income for a family was 50,520 USD. Males had a median income of $ 35,251 versus $ 26,119 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,721. 6.2 percent of families and 7.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 10.5 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
