Madison County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is London .

The county is located slightly southwest of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of ​​1207 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Union County , Franklin County , Pickaway County , Fayette County , Greene County , Clark County, and Champaign Counties .

history

Madison County was formed on February 16, 1810 from parts of Franklin County. It was named after James Madison , the fourth President of the United States and the person who declared war on the British, which led to the British-American War from 1812 to 1814.

Eleven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 11, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Madison County had 40,213 people in 13,672 households and 10,035 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer.
