Richland County is a county in the US state of Ohio in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 128,852 people and a population density of 100 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mansfield .

The county is located in north-central Ohio and has an area of 1,296 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Huron County , Ashland County , Knox County , Morrow County, and Crawford County .
history
Richland County was formed on January 30, 1808 from parts of Fairfield County. It was named after the good (rich) soil in this area.

Richland County's population was 128,852 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 6,460 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 49,534 households and 34,277 families. The population density was 100 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.16 percent white, 9.43 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.51 percent Asian, 0.03 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.38 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.28 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.93 percent of the population.
Of the 49,534 households, 30.9 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.3 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers, 30.8 percent were non-families, 26.5 percent were single households, and 10.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.98.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 99.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,397 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,036. Males had a median income of $ 35,425 versus $ 22,859 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,582. 8.2 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. These included 15.3 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 7.7 percent of people aged 65 and over.
