Richland County is a county in the US state of Ohio in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 128,852 people and a population density of 100 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Mansfield .

The county is located in north-central Ohio and has an area of ​​1,296 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Huron County , Ashland County , Knox County , Morrow County, and Crawford County .

history

Richland County was formed on January 30, 1808 from parts of Fairfield County. It was named after the good (rich) soil in this area.
