Fairfield County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Lancaster .
geography
The county is located just south of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1,317 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Licking County , Perry County , Hocking County , Pickaway County, and Franklin County .
history
Fairfield County was formed on December 9, 1800 from parts of Ross County and Washington County. The naming of the county is descriptive and describes the charming effect of hilly farmlands.
Historical objects
- About 3.2 kilometers northeast of Carroll , on Havensport Road , you will find John Bright No. 1 iron bridge . The “iron” bridge was listed as a historic monument by the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 (NRHP 78002060).
One place in the county has National Historic Landmark status , the John Sherman Birthplace , which is the birthplace of John Sherman . 45 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 13, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Fairfield County had 122,759 people in 45,425 households and 34,159 families. The population density was 94 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.15 percent white, 2.67 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.72 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.23 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.81 percent of the population.
Of the 45,425 households, 36.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.7 percent were married couples living together, 9.1 percent were single mothers, 24.8 percent were non-families, 20.7 percent were single households, and 8.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.06.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.8 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 11.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 96.3 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 47,962 , and the median income for a family was $ 55,539. Males had a median income of $ 39,566 versus $ 27,353 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,671. 4.5 percent of families and 5.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. 7.4 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
