Hancock County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Findlay .

The county is located in central northwest Ohio and has an area of ​​1,382 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Wood County , Seneca County , Wyandot County , Hardin County , Allen County , Putnam County, and Henry County .

history

Hancock County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Logan County. It was named after John Hancock , a leader of the uprising against metropolitan Britain, the third president of the Continental Congress and first signatory of the United States' Declaration of Independence .

Twelve structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 18, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , there were 71,295 people in 27,898 households and 19,138 families in Hancock County. The population density was 52 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.14 percent white, 1.11 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 1.22 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.22 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.12 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.07 percent of the population.

The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 91.2 men statistically.

The median income for a household in the 43,856 USD , and the median income for a family was 51,490 USD. Males had a median income of $ 37,139 versus $ 24,374 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,991. 5.2 percent of families and 7.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. 8.8 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
