Noble County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Caldwell .
geography
The county is located just south of east Ohio, about 60 km from the West Virginia border and has an area of 1,048 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Guernsey County , Belmont County , Monroe County , Washington County , Morgan County, and Muskingum County .
history
Noble County was formed on March 11, 1851 from parts of Guernsey, Morgan, Monroe and Washington Counties. It was named after James Noble or John Noble or his son born in 1802.

As of the 2000 census , Noble County had 14,058 people in 4,546 households and 3,318 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.55 percent white, 6.69 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian and 0.03 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.38 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.43 percent of the population.
Of the 4,546 households, 33.5 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.7 percent were single mothers, 27.0 percent were non-families, 24.3 percent were single households, and 12.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 11.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.8 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 130.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 140.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,940 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,939. Males had a median income of $ 30,911 versus $ 20,222 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,100. 8.3 percent of families and 11.4 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 13.9 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 11.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
