Bloomfield Township is a charter township in Oakland County in the US state of Michigan . It is an affluent Detroit suburb , occasionally dubbed Bloomfield , and officially called the Charter Township of Bloomfield to indicate that the township has expanded municipal rights. In the 2000 census , the township had 43,023 residents.

The township was established in 1827 , Oakland County's first township. Within its boundaries is the Oakland Hills Country Club , where the 2004 Ryder Cup golf competition was held. Many residents have their mailing addresses at either Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham , as the postal districts of these neighboring towns extend beyond municipal boundaries.
