Farmington Hills is a city in Oakland County in the US state of Michigan . The city is located in the Metro Detroit and had 82,111 inhabitants in 2000 . The area is 86.2 km².

Farmington Hills has an area of 86.2 km² that is entirely on land. The city almost completely includes the city of Farmington . To the north lies the West Bloomfield Charter Township , to the west it borders Novi and to the east beyond the city limits Franklin and Southfield . The southern city boundary is formed by the county boundary. There in Wayne County is Livonia .

As of the 2000 census, 82,111 people, 33,559 households and 21,813 families were registered. The population density is 952.3 people per square kilometer. 82.95% are White , 6.94% are Black , 7.54% are Asian, 1.47% Latin American , 0.17% Native , 0.48% Other, and 1.93% belong to several other races.
