Nathan Gerbe (born July 26, 1987 in Oxford , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League since January 2018 and for their farm team , the Cleveland Monsters , in American Hockey League is used.

Career

Nathan Gerbe began his career as a hockey player with the River City Lancers of the United States Hockey League , for which he played in the 2002/03 season. From 2003 to 2005, the winger was a member of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the North American Hockey League . He was then selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as the 142nd player of the Buffalo Sabers . For the next three years, however, the American first played for the Boston College ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his last year of college, he won with the team the national championship and was personally responsible for the Hobey Baker Award nominated .

In the summer of 2008 Gerbe was included in the squad of the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League , the farm team of the Sabers, for which he first played in professional ice hockey. On December 6, 2008, he made his National Hockey League debut in an away game with the Tampa Bay Lightning . In July 2013, the Sabers paid out his contract early ( buy out ). That same month, Gerbe signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes . This has been extended for the time being; After the 2015/16 season, however, Gerbe did not receive a new contract offer from the Hurricanes, so he joined the New York Rangers as a free agent in July 2016 . There he did not make the leap into the NHL line-up and subsequently preferred to cancel his contract rather than play in the AHL for the Hartford Wolf Pack . A little later, the Genève-Servette HC from the Swiss National League A announced that they had equipped Gerbe with a three-year contract.

As early as January 2018, the attacker agreed with the Genève-Servette HC to prematurely terminate his contract, so that he could return to the NHL a little later and join the Columbus Blue Jackets .
