The Memphis Pyramid was a multi-purpose hall in the US city ​​of Memphis in the state of Tennessee until 2015 .

history

The former arena on the banks of the Mississippi River was built from 1989 to 1991 based on the model of the Egyptian pyramids . The building with a height of 98 meters (321 feet ) offered a total of 20,142 seats until the renovation in 2015. The hall held over 20,000 visitors at concerts.

It served as the home ground of the basketball team Memphis Grizzlies from the NBA and the NCAA - college basketball team of the Memphis Tigers and the Memphis Pharaohs from the Arena Football League (AFL). Numerous artists performed at concerts in the hall. It also found u. a. Wrestling events , boxing matches , as held on June 8, 2002 with Lennox Lewis versus Mike Tyson . The Church of God in Christ held a few meetings here.

The hall was closed in 2004 and is no longer used as an event location. In 2015 it was opened as a megastore for Bass Pro Shops , a retailer for u. a. Hunting , fishing and camping equipment as well as similar nature sports , including restaurants and hotel reopened. In a little over two months, over a million visitors came to the Bass Pro Pyramid. Due to the great success, they are considering building a zip line and a second hotel.
