The Stadio Brianteo is the municipal football stadium of the northern Italian city of Monza in the province of Monza and Brianza the Region Lombardy . The football club AC Monza has its sporting home here. The arena is located just four km southeast of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza Formula 1 racing track .
history
Because the Stadio Gino Alfonso Sada was outdated and too small; the city decided to build a new stadium. There were long discussions about the shape of the facility, whether the sports facility will have an athletics facility or not. The planned athletics track was removed again during construction. The stadium was opened on August 28, 1988 with the Coppa Italia game AC Monza Brianza against AS Roma . Monza defeated AS Roma with 2-1 goals.
The stadium now offers seats for 18,568 spectators (8,327 of which are covered). The main grandstand alone has a roof and seats around 5,000. The roof is suspended from the two massive and towering floodlight towers. The two-story opposite grandstand offers almost 8,000 seats and the back-door grandstands each have almost 3,000 seats. The press stand has 70 seats; which has recently been renovated as have the changing rooms. A bar was also opened in the main stand.
Others
The facility is also used for rugby games from time to time . So met z. B. the Italian national rugby union team and the Fijian national rugby union team on November 26, 2005 for a friendly match. On May 19, 2007 the final of the Italian rugby championship Super 10 between Benetton Rugby Treviso and Rugby Viadana (28:24) took place.
In addition to the sporting events, concerts are also held in the stadium. In 2009, the Gods of Metal music festival took place in the Monza stadium for the third time after 2000 and 2002 .
