The Stadio dei Marmi ( German  marble stadium , official name since September 2005: Stadio Comunale dei Marmi L. Marchini, A. Piccini, P. Vannucci, B. Venturini ) is a football stadium in the Italian city of Carrara , Tuscany region . It has been the home ground of the Carrarese Calcio football club since it opened . The facility currently offers 4875 seats.

history

Carrarese Calcio played on the Campo Augusto Mungai after it was founded in 1908 . Then they switched to Campo Viale XX Settembre , which was colloquially only known as Fossa dei Leoni ( German  lion's den ). On January 9, 1955, the newly built, municipal stadium, at that time still with an athletics facility, was inaugurated and is henceforth the home of Carrarese Calcio.

On September 12, 2005, the four former players of the club, Libero Marchini , Achille Piccini , Paolo Vannucci and Bruno Venturini , who were part of the team at the 1936 Summer Olympics football tournament, were honored with the renaming. Italy won the final against Austria (2: 1 afterwards) the only gold medal of an Italian soccer team at the Olympics to date. In view of the long name, the short form Stadio dei Quattro Olimpionici Azzurri ( German  Stadium of the Four Blue Olympians ) was used by the media . It comes from a memorial plaque attached to the grandstand entrance on May 20, 2007. But it is inappropriate and does not do justice to the four individual players. The name Stadio dei Marmi continues to be used in common parlance .

For the 2013/14 season, the nearly 60-year-old Stadio dei Marmi was renovated. It received u. a. the field of play has artificial turf of the FIFA 2 Star category, which is approved for UEFA Champions League matches . The main grandstand has 600 covered seats. There are 40 workplaces available for journalists. The tiers are separated from the 105 × 68 m playing field with a surrounding ditch.

In the summer of 2019, plastic seats with backrests in the club colors yellow and blue were installed in the opposite stand. They must be fixed to the floor, numbered, fireproof and attached separately from each other. A rule of Series C states that there must also be child-friendly seats in the longitudinal stands used. In addition, the medicine room was moved to the old press conference room. The journalists' seats are also located under the grandstand, which according to another regulation must be equipped with internet and WiFi . After several seasons with money-blue safety nets behind the goals, they returned to the white versions.
