The Stadio Romeo Menti is in the Italian city of Vicenza in the same province , region Veneto . The football club Vicenza Calcio holds its matches in the football stadium with a covered main stand . The sports facility was opened in 1935 under the name Stadio Comunale and initially equipped with an athletics facility.
history
The facility was destroyed in the Second World War . A few months later, at least the field was playable again. In 1947 the venue was rebuilt with 17,000 seats and the running track was removed. In 1949, the Vicenza City Council decided to name the stadium after the football player Romeo Menti , who was killed in the Superga plane crash on May 4, 1949. Four years later, the expansion to 30,000 places began. Over the years there have been repeated renovations to the stadium and at the end of the 1970s the sports facility held 33,000 and in 1985 28,000 spectators.
In November 1989, the only international match of the Italian national team to date took place in Vicenza.
Adjusted to the regulations, the capacity at the end of the 1990s was 20,920 spectators. A few years ago, the front supports of the roof were removed as they obstructed the view of the audience and the television cameras. Then 16,012 spectators fit into the venue.
In the summer of 2007, the new stadium security regulation was implemented. Turnstiles have been installed at the entrances, the video surveillance system has been improved and more security personnel have been deployed in the stadium. This reduced the number of seats to 12,000. The Vicenza Calcio association bore the costs. The city lowered the rent of the sports facility until a new stadium was built.
