The Stadio Silvio Piola is a football stadium in the Italian city of Vercelli in the same province of the region of Piedmont . The sporting home of the US Pro Vercelli offers 8,000 seats for visitors. From 2006 until its dissolution in 2010, the AS Pro Belvedere Vercelli club was also located in the stadium.
history
When it was inaugurated in 1932, the stadium was named Stadio Leonida Robbiano . Robbiano was an Italian military pilot ; which fell on April 11, 1933. Since 1997 it has been named after the Italian football player Silvio Piola , who died in 1996 . The striker played in his 25-year career (1929-1954) a total of 537 league games and scored 338 goals.
The venue is located in the city in the middle of residential buildings. The appearance of the facility is determined by the roofed and seated main grandstand. There are tiered standing room tiers around the playing field ; which is separated from the lawn by a high fence . Because the main stand is set back a little; there are more standing places on concrete steps. In the summer of 2007 a storm damaged part of the stands; this was fixed again by the start of the 2007/08 season. In the summer of 2009 and 2010, the grandstand areas for the guest fans were renewed.
In June 2011, the US Pro Vercelli Association and the city decided by mutual agreement, with the support of Mayor Andrea Corsaro, to renovate the Stadio Silvio Piola. So should u. a. the 1,070 seats in the main grandstand will be renewed and artificial turf will be laid on the field. The work should be completed before the start of the 2011/12 season.
