history
The Stadio Libero Liberati is the third venue in the history of Ternana Calcio. First you competed in the Foro Boario of Terni. The Stadio di Viale Brin was built in 1924/25 and was preserved until the 1990s; until it was demolished for a parking lot. On behalf of the city, the architect Leopoldo Barruchello designed the stadium in 1961. The following year, the city decided to build the facility in the San Martino area on ten hectares on the outskirts of the city. But it took until 1969 to be completed. It was inaugurated with the game between Ternana Calcio and the Brazilian team Palmeiras São Paulo ; that ended in a 0-0 draw.
The bowl-like stadium with the athletics cinder track is very spacious and the spectators on the two-story stands are far away from the game. The surrounding stands are only interrupted behind the gates. The gap in the north curve was closed in 1974 with a grandstand. The Libero Liberati does not have a roof . The two upper tiers are built on solid concrete pillars. The press stand with the cabins for the radio and television commentators was placed on the upper tier of the main stand. The stadium was recently renovated and adapted to Serie A and Serie B regulations . In the meantime, the stadium held 40,000 to 45,000 visitors; today it still offers 22,000 seats for football fans.
