Sleeping with the Past ( English for 'to sleep with the past') is the 22nd studio album by British singer Elton John . It was originally released on August 29, 1989 and was re-released on June 11, 1998 with two bonus songs.

Sleeping with the Past was produced by the English music producer Chris Thomas , with whom Elton John worked on previous albums. All songs were written by Elton John in collaboration with Bernie Taupin , to whom he also dedicated the album.

Sleeping with the Past entered the German album charts at number 75 on September 18, 1989, and two weeks later it occupied the highest position at number 9. Overall, the album stayed in the top 100 for 52 weeks. It was more successful in Switzerland and the UK, where the album topped the charts.

As singles , the songs were Healing Hands , Sacrifice , Whispers , Amazes Me and Club at the End of the Street decoupled. Sacrifice and Healing Hands were re-released as a double single in the UK in 1990 and became a number one hit , as a result of which the album only reached number 1 there.

Sales figures and awards

In 1990 Sleeping with the Past received a gold record in Germany for more than 250,000 units sold . It was triple platinum in the UK in 1990 for over 900,000 sales, making it the artist's most commercially successful studio album in his home country. In total, the album received record awards for more than 3.2 million copies sold.
