The A Single Man Tour was a European tour that the British musician and composer Elton John undertook to promote his twelfth studio album, A Single Man . During the tour, John performed 60 concerts in Belgium , Denmark , Germany , France , Ireland , the Netherlands , Sweden , Switzerland , Spain and the United Kingdom .
tour
In 1977 John had announced that he no longer wanted to go on a concert tour. In the same year, however, there were some appearances with the percussion player Ray Cooper , which should be the beginning of a new form of the show for John. The focus was no longer on huge concert halls where he appeared in extravagant costumes with fancy glasses in front of thousands of fans. Instead, it should be comparatively small stages with space for only a few thousand people.
The performance of the performance was also completely different. For the first hour John played his songs alone on the piano, to which the tour name A Single Man was a perfect match. After an hour, Ray Cooper joined him on stage and complemented John's piano playing and singing with a variety of percussion instruments.
In December 1978 John complained that a tour through Europe was actually too boring for him, he would like to perform in Russia. Harvey Goldsmith was one of the organizers of the tour, who then took care of exploring the possibilities of concerts in the Soviet Union. When John's appearance on the Oxford tour, Vladimir Kokonin saw him , he was a representative of the Soviet Ministry of Culture. Soviet leaders wanted to make sure that Western artists fit the party's official line. John's A Single Man Tour fitted into this performance and was ultimately the preparation for his appearances in the Soviet Union later in 1979.
