Bruce Andrews

Bruce Andrews (born April 1, 1948 in Chicago ) is an American political scientist , university professor and poet of the L = A = N = G = U = A = G = E poets , a literary group formed in the 1970s.

Life

Bruce Andrews completed his studies in international relations at Johns Hopkins University and a further degree in political science at Harvard University . In 1973 he published his first book with Edge . In 1975 he took over a professorship in political science at Fordham University . In his lectures, outside of the usual paradigms, he vehemently criticized what he saw as the wrong US government policy of oppression and undermining. In addition, his courses took an unorthodox view of the political system of the United States .

In addition to his teaching activities, Andrews was one of the key figures of the L = A = N = G = U = A = G = E poets , a literary group formed in the 1970s. Together with Charles Bernstein , he published the eponymous literary magazine L = A = N = G = U = A = G = E between 1978 and 1981, which appeared in 13 issues during these years. L = A = N = G = U = A = G = E , along with other literary magazines like This , A Hundred Posters , Big Deal , Dog City , Hills , Là Bas , Oculist Witnesses , QU and Roof, was one of the most important publications on the The field of language poetry, which is believed to emphasize the role of the reader in understanding the meaning of a text. Less emphasis is placed on form and expression, and the poem is viewed as a construct in language and the construction of language. In 1984 he and Bernstein published most of the magazine's content in The L = A = N = G = U = A = G = E Book . He rejects the traditional notion of poetry as "direct treatment" ( , direct treatment ' ) of things in the language, and argues that the only thing that can be treated, is the language itself. His other books include Love Songs (1982), Give em enough rope (1987), Getting Ready to Have Been Frightened (1988), Executive Summary (1991), Paradise & method.
