Bob Cobbing

Bob Cobbing (born July 30, 1920 in London Borough of Enfield , Greater London , † September 29, 2002 in London ) was a British poet of the British Poetry Revival . He was a representative of visual poetry , concrete poetry , sound poetry and editor .

life and work

Bob Cobbing grew up in Enfield. His parents were members of the Brethren movement . They ran a business in which signs were made with sign language , represented in pictograms . Cobbing was a conscientious objector during World War II . First he worked as an accountant and later as a school teacher at Bognor Training College . Since the 1950s he was a member of the Hendon Experimental Art Club and from 1951 published the magazine And . The publishing house and the poets forum Writers Forum was founded by Bob Cobbing. The Writers Forum were Bob Cobbing, Jeremy Adler , Bill Griffiths , Chris Cheek, Clive Fencott, Clive Fencott, Dick Higgins , Peter Finch , Lawrende Upton and others. a. Between 1963 and 2002, the Writers' Forum published more than 1,000 leaflets, brochures and books. Many of Bob Cobbing's own works have been published, as well as works by young writers such as Lee Harwood and Maggie O'Sullivan , as well as by artists such as John Cage , Ian Hamilton Finlay and Allen Ginsberg . Cobbing ran the Better Books bookstore on London's Charing Cross Road , which became a popular hangout for the underground scene. The bookstore was also used for readings, as a stage, cinema and gallery. Cobbing founded the Association of Little Presses and Cinema 65 , which is considered the forerunner of the London Film-Makers' Co-op .
