Jeremy Adler
Jeremy Adler (* 1. October 1947 in London ) is a British writer and emeritus professor of German language at King's College London . He is the son of the writer HG Adler and has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry since 2005 .
Life
Adler studied at Queen Mary College in London English as German literature and a doctorate (1977) at Claus Bock on the subject of an almost magical attraction: Goethe's Elective Affinities and the chemistry of his Zei t . He has been with Bill Griffiths , Lawrence Upton, Dick Higgins, and the like. a. Involved in the British Poetry Revival at Writer's Forum London around Bob Cobbing , published there Concrete and Visual Poetry , Texts and Poems also by HG Adler and Franz Wurm as 1971-73 and 1977 four issues of the collection A. An Envelope Magazine of Visual edited by him Poetry as artist books in self-published Alphabox . He gave the legacies of Hans Günther Adler and Franz Baermann Steiner to the German Literature Archive Marbach and works from their estate. Together with Rüdiger Görner and Michael Krüger , he reported on "German-speaking exiles in London under the sign of the Shoah" at the International College Morphomata of the University of Cologne on November 7, 2016.
Adler was a member of the Colloquium Neue Poesie Bielefeld, in the academic year 1985/1986 and again in 2011/2012 a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin . In Germany, Adler became known for his criticism of Bernhard Schlink's bestseller Der Vorleser . With his rejection of the edition of Mein Kampf by the Institute for Contemporary History Munich- Berlin, he triggered an international debate. Adler summarizes his views and criticism in his book Das absolut Böse , published in 2018, and shared by Wolfgang Benz .
Adler is publicly opposed to Brexit and is in favor of the United Kingdom remaining in the EU. In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung , he criticized the EU deal with Turkey as human trafficking and called for the establishment of a European refugee agency.
