The arena is used by sports teams from Chicago, around 30 kilometers away, and is around 5 kilometers north of O'Hare International Airport , Chicago's largest airport. history

Interior of the Allstate Arena

After construction began in 1977, the building was completed in 1980, was intended as a venue for the Chicago Cougars ( WHA ) and was to be named O'Hare Sports Arena . Due to financial difficulties, the owners of the Cougars could no longer secure the financing of the building. The community of Rosemont bought the building land with the help of bonds and long-term lease agreements (e.g. the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus , MFG International or Araserv) and built the Rosemont Horizon on it .

The Chicago Sky hall used to be the home of the WNBA women's basketball league and the DePaul University men's basketball team , the DePaul Blue Demons ( NCAA ). The DePaul Blue Demons have been competing in the newly built Wintrust Arena since 2017 . Furthermore, the Chicago Horizon , ( MISL , 1980–1981), the Chicago Sting ( MISL , 1984–1988), the Chicago Bruisers ( AFL , 1987–1989) and the Chicago Skyliners , ( ABA , 2000–2002) and the Chicago Rush ( AFL , 2001-2008, 2010-2013) played their games in Rosemont.

On August 14, 1979, the roof of the 90% completed multi-purpose hall collapsed. Five construction workers were killed and 16 others were injured. On July 2nd, 1980 the inauguration of the sports arena took place. The first event was a concert by Fleetwood Mac , which took place on March 14, 1980 before the official opening. In 1999, Allstate Insurance Company paid $ 30 million for the naming rights and renovation of the multi-purpose hall. In 2003 the basketball field was named Ray and Marge Meyer Court after Ray Meyer , a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame , and his wife Marge. Ray Meyer was a basketball coach at DePaul University from 1942 to 1984 . On August 17, 2009, the Chicago Sky WNBA team and the operators of the Allstate Arena signed a multi-year contract for the use of the hall. For the 2017 WNBA season, the team moved to the new Wintrust Arena .
