history

Establish and Leave a Whisper

In the spring of 2001 from received Knoxville native singer Brent Smith with his band a preliminary contract with Atlantic Records . After Atlantic Records decided to continue working only with Smith, the singer moved to Jacksonville. Through a friend, Smith met bassist Brad Stewart. Guitarist Jasin Todd joined the band next . After the trio had tested several candidates for the post of drummer , Barry Kerch finally completed the band. Shinedown eventually recorded several demos in Jacksonville and Orlando before Atlantic gave the green light for the debut album.

The band traveled to Los Angeles to record the album Leave a Whisper , directed by producer Bob Marlette . Marlette has previously worked with artists such as Ozzy Osbourne , Black Sabbath and Saliva . The album was released in July 2003, reached number 53 on the US album charts and is now the band's best-selling work. In October 2005 Leave a Whisper was certified platinum for more than one million units sold in the US .

Until the release of the debut album, Shinedown had not played a concert. In the following two years Shinedown played countless concerts as opening act for Van Halen , 3 Doors Down and Life of Agony . In the meantime Leave a Whisper has been re-released. The new version includes, for example, a cover version of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song Simple Man . The music video for the single 45 was boycotted by MTV . In August 2005 the band released the DVD Live from the Inside . A concert in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina was recorded for this purpose .

After a short break, the recordings for the second studio album Us and Them began . With Zach Myers a second guitarist was added to the band. The 13-song work was released in October 2005 and reached number 23 on the US album charts. Shinedown went on tour with Godsmack and Rob Zombie . Us and Them was awarded a gold record . The singles Save Me and I Dare You reached the US single charts, placing 72 and 88 respectively.

After the tour was over, founding members Jasin Todd and Brad Stewart left the band. They were replaced by Nick Perri and Eric Bass. Again Shinedown traveled to Los Angeles to record their third album The Sound of Madness . The album was released in the US on June 24, 2008 and reached number eight on the US album charts. The album was released in Germany on October 14, 2008, and in the same autumn Shinedown were touring Germany as the opening act for Disturbed .

On December 18, 2008, Nick Perri left for personal reasons. Zach Myers took on the role of lead guitarist, so the band was back to four. In spring 2009 Shinedown toured Europe for the first time as a headliner . The European tour took the band mainly through smaller clubs. The British band The Crave was part of the opening act .

In summer 2009 the band performed at the Rock-am-Ring Festival at the Nürburgring. Another headlining tour through Europe followed in autumn. Here Shinedown played again in smaller clubs and halls. Shinedown was partly on the road with SOiL and Sevendust as support . Since spring 2017 Shinedown has appeared as a support act for Iron Maiden on their European indoor tour. In the summer of 2012 the band performed at the Rock-am-Ring Festival at the Nürburgring.
