Life of Agony is an American rock - / Metal - band from New York .

history

Influenced by bands like Metallica , Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath , Life of Agony was founded in 1989 by Mina Caputo (until 2011 under the name Keith Caputo), Joey Z., and Alan Robert. Later drummer Sal Abruscato from the band Type O Negative joined them. Her debut album, River Runs Red , was released on Roadrunner Records in 1993, produced by Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver. In addition to ten songs that deal with death and suicide, the concept album contains the last week in the life of a young man, which is told on Monday , Thursday and Friday . Overwhelmed and passed out because of his problems, he dies by suicide .

The successor to River Runs Red was released in 1995 and is called Ugly . After the subsequent tour, drummer Sal Abruscato left the group, he was replaced by the former pro pain musician Dan Richardson. In 1997 the third album Soul Searching Sun was released , which was decidedly softer than its predecessor. Before the next tour, singer Keith Caputo, and with him his distinctive voice - a trademark of Life of Agony - left the band and was replaced by Whitfield Crane , formerly the front man of the group Ugly Kid Joe .

Caputo then embarked on a solo path and recorded his first solo album Died Laughing in 1999 , on which he consistently strikes the quieter notes that were already represented on the last regular LoA album. Life of Agony separated in 1999 without having recorded a new record with Crane.

A reunion in the original line-up took place in 2003 when the band gave concerts in New York on two consecutive days. In 2005 the current work Broken Valley followed , again recorded with Keith Caputo as singer and Sal Abruscato on drums. In 2006 Keith Caputo released another solo album under the stage name "Caputo" called Hearts Blood on Your Dawn , which he recorded with three young Dutchmen in Brussels . However, this work is only distributed online and at concerts.

In July 2010 the band released another live album entitled 20 Years Strong - River Runs Red: Live in Brussels on the label I Scream Records . The live album includes an audio CD with almost 75 minutes playing time as well as a DVD. In February 2012, Sal Abruscato announced that Life of Agony had broken up again. “We're not going to perform anymore and we have given up our studio. We just feel that we have reached the end. We can't bring ourselves to write a song anymore. ”However, in 2014 the band announced their reunion.

In mid-2016, Life of Agony announced that the band had signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records . The fifth studio album, A Place Where There's No More Pain , was released on April 28, 2017. On January 22, 2018, Life of Agony announced on their Facebook page Veronica Bellino, succeeding Sal Abruscato, as their new drummer. The sixth studio album called The Sound of Scars was released on October 11, 2019 , on which the story of the young man from the album River Runs Red is continued. It turns out that he survived the suicide attempt but is still struggling with the psychological distress of the crime decades ago. The accompanying SOS World Tour takes the band to Australia for the first time in its history.
