Mina Caputo (born December 4, 1973 ) is an American musician who became known as a member of the rock band Life of Agony . Between 1999 and 2013 she released six solo studio albums, one live album and a collection of rarities and demos.

Life

Career

Mina Caputo (vocals), then still as Keith Caputo, her cousin Joey Z. (guitar) and his friend Alan Robert (bass), all three of Italian descent, founded their band Life of Agony in 1989 in Brooklyn , New York . They found a suitable drummer in Sal Abruscato by Type O Negative . The band achieved great fame in the metal and rock scene in the 1990s. Caputo's distinctive baritone voice was decisive for the sound and the success .

In 1997 she left Life Of Agony in favor of a solo career and the band Absolut Bloom, which only existed for a few months . At the beginning of 2000 Caputo's solo debut Died Laughing was released. With the solo career, however, she was far behind that of Life of Agony in terms of success . Together with the Brazilian band Freax , which has existed since 1983 , Caputo released the band's debut album in 2002.

After the early separation from Life of Agony , they reunited in 2003. In addition, she continued to devote herself to her solo career and released the album Perfect Little Monsters in 2002 and the live album Live Monsters in 2004 . In 2005 she was involved in the Roadrunner United project to mark the 25th anniversary of the record label Roadrunner Records . Caputo wrote the lyrics and did the vocals for Tired 'N Lonely. The music was written by Joey Jordison from Slipknot .

After further solo albums between 2006 and 2009, As Much Truth as One Can Bear, her first album under her new name Mina Caputo, followed in 2013 .

Together with Michael Alago, Caputo published the book Night Blooming Jasmine Will Never Smell The Same in 2010 , a collection of texts with poems, short stories, dialogues and observations.

Private

On July 15, 2011 , Caputo came out as transsexual on her Twitter profile . A few days earlier, on July 8th, a statement was published on her website, according to which her e-mail account had been hacked (“ Keith Mina's eMail Hacked! ”), And in which, under the new name Keith Mina, consistently in feminine personal pronouns was written about them. Soon after, she published and only appeared under Mina Caputo .
