Aleš Čeh (born April 7, 1968 in Maribor , SFR Yugoslavia , today Slovenia ) is a former Slovenian football player and today's coach .
Player career
Čeh started his career at Slovan Ljubljana . His next club was local rival Olimpija . In 1992 he moved across the border to the Grazer AK , at the time in the second Austrian performance level. The defensive midfielder remained loyal to the athletes for eleven years. During this period of time, the traditional club von der Mur was regained its strength as well as numerous appearances in the Slovenian national team. With the GAK he was Austrian Cup and Supercup winner in 2000 and 2002. From 2003 to 2005 he played for NK Maribor in his home country . In January 2005 Werner Gregoritsch , who was already one of his trainers in Graz , brought him to LASK Linz . In 2006 he moved back to his homeland, this time back to his first professional station, the NK Olimpija Ljubljana .
National team
Aleš Čeh played 74 times in the Slovenian national team and was able to qualify with the national team for the EM 2000 and 2002 World Cup. In both tournaments he was in action for the full 90 minutes in all games, and in 2002 he also led the team as captain.
Coaching career
After completing his playing career, he trained the youth team of under 16-year-olds at the Slovenian Association and worked as an assistant coach at Olimpija. In June 2011, after the departure of Peter Stöger , he took over the coaching position at the Grazer AK. After only one season, he resigned on June 9, 2012 after missing promotion from his coaching position in Graz. On September 14, 2012, the Slovenian first division club Rudar Velenje appointed him as the successor to the dismissed coach Dušan Kosič .
On January 2, 2013 Srečko Katanec appointed him as his assistant coach at the Slovenian national football team and he resigned as a club coach at Velenje.
