River Runs Red is the debut album by the American alternative metal band Life of Agony . It was released on October 1, 1993 via Roadrunner Records .

Emergence

Between the formation of the band in 1989 and the release of the debut album, the band played several demos that already contained several songs used on River Runs Red . The album was in the System Two studios in the New York district of Brooklyn added. Was produced River Runs Red from Type-O-Negative - keyboardist Josh Silver. All lyrics and music were written by bassist Alan Robert.

River Runs Red is considered a concept album about the last week of life of a young man overwhelmed by his problems at the end of the album Suicide commits. The concept was an idea by Alan Robert and Josh Silver. As on the Pink Floyd album The Wall, both wanted to tell a story that holds the whole album together in terms of content.

The story is told in the titles "Monday", "Thursday" and "Friday". The protagonist comes home in all three titles and is yelled at by his mother. The mother is played by the drummer Sal Abruscato. His voice was alienated with a harmonizer in the basement of the studio . The young man now goes to his room and listens to the answering machine . On “Monday” the man learns from his girlfriend that she is ending the relationship. On “Thursday”, the young man's employer first calls and informs him of his dismissal . Afterward, his teacher called to tell him that his transfer was in danger. The teacher was voiced by Alan Robert's mother. The album ends with "Friday". The protagonist takes a shower and cuts his wrists .

Music videos were shot for the songs "Through and Through" and "This Time" . “Through and Through” was the first video that was broadcast on the German music broadcaster VIVA's Metalla program .
