The Sound of Madness ( English for The Sound of Madness ) is the third studio album by the US rock band Shinedown . It was released on July 24, 2008. The single Second Chance made the band known in Europe.

Michael Edele from laut.de sees the single Second Chance as a damn strong, completely unkitsch ballad. Overall, he describes The Sound of Madness as US rock in its most convenient incarnation. According to Matthias Reichel of cdstarts.de they serve hearty (hard) rockers with hit potential ("Devour", "Sound of Madness", "Cry for Help") and juicy ballads that are anything but lean quark ("Second Chance", "What a Shame", "Call Me") .

The title Devour is politically influenced, so lyrically it does not leave a good hair on the former US President George W.
