Ray Meyer

Raymond (Ray) J. Meyer (born December 18, 1913 in Chicago , Illinois , † March 17, 2006 in Wheeling , Illinois) was an American basketball coach . Between 1942 and 1984 he coached the DePaul University team . The 1945 team around George Mikan led Meyer to win the National Invitation Tournament title, the first and so far only title in the history of the university. In 1978 Meyer was voted "College Trainer of the Year". His record with DePaul is 724-354 wins in 42 seasons. Meyer has been a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame since April 30, 1979 .
