The Ting Tings are an English pop duo. They were founded in 2007 by the drummer Jules De Martino and the singer Katie White in Islington Mill , Salford , a city in north-west England near Manchester. The band's music has strong electronic influences.

Career

Lead singer Katie White was a teenager in the Riot Grrrl group TKO, an acronym for Technical Knock Out . Together with two friends she accompanied bands like Steps or Five . However, the band remained without a record deal and release. When she finished high school, she met drummer Jules De Martino and started The Ting Tings with him.

In late April 2008, her song Shut Up and Let Me Go was used in a commercial for the Apple iPod , and in 2009 in a commercial for Fanta .

A week before their debut album was released, the single That's Not My Name was re-released and this time it went straight to number 1 in the UK . In addition, the song was used in several films (e.g. Honey 2). The album We Started Nothing followed a week later at number 1 in the album charts.

In June 2008 they performed at the Glastonbury Festival , on June 19, 2009 The Ting Tings had an appearance at the Hurricane Festival and the Southside Festival . Almost a month later there was also an appearance at the legendary Sziget Festival .

In 2009 the band received the Ivor Novello Award . They also received a nomination for Best New Artist for the Grammy Awards 2010 .

The band is signed to Columbia Records .
