Seether is a post-grunge - band , originally from South Africa comes.
Band history
The band was formed in 1999 by Shaun Morgan Welgemoed ( vocals , guitar ), Dale Stewart ( bass , vocals) and Dave Cohoe ( drums ). At that time the band was still known under the name "Saron Gas". Under this name she released her first album "Fragile" in 2000, which is only available in South Africa. When the band emigrated to the USA , founding member Dave Cohoe left the band for personal reasons. In the course of the move, the band not only switched from the South African label Musketeer Records to Wind-Up Records , but also changed their name to "Seether", after the song of the same name by the band Veruca Salt , which the band members liked very much.
Josh Freese took over the drums for her second album "Disclaimer" . Some songs from the debut album Saron Gas have been completely re-recorded for disclaimer purposes. Shortly before the album was released, drummer Josh Freese was replaced by Nick Oshiro. Afro Nick was also hired as a tour guitarist, but he was only a short member of the band. In October 2002 Pat Callahan joined the band as the second guitarist. A year later, Kevin Soffera replaced drummer Nick Oshiro. When he left for personal reasons at the end of 2003, John Humphrey was his successor, who is still a member of the band today.
Seether was best known for a new recording of the song "Broken" as a Punisher soundtrack with Evanescence singer Amy Lee , with whom Morgan had a relationship. In addition, the frontman Morgan is said to have a vocal resemblance to the late singer Kurt Cobain , which contributed a lot to the popularity.
Bob Marlette ( Alice Cooper , Black Sabbath ) completely reworked the sound of "Disclaimer" and brought it together with the Amy Lee version of "Broken" and another three bonus tracks ("Sold Me", "Got It Made" and "Cigarettes") the band released “Disclaimer II” in 2004, which was also released in the USA as a deluxe version with a live DVD and contained four other songs. "Disclaimer II" achieved platinum status in the USA.
A year later the album "Karma and Effect" was released. Seether remained essentially true to her style, but was able to establish a more personal note compared to “Disclaimer II”. The first single “Remedy” reached number 1 in the US mainstream rock charts and stayed at the top for eight weeks. "Karma and Effect" reached number 8 in the US album charts and went gold.
In June 2006, shortly before the release of the unplugged album "One Cold Night", the band announced the separation from guitarist Pat Callahan. An exact reason was never given, but Morgan spoke literally of "a redemption" in various interviews. The band decided against a new guitarist for the time being and continued to play as a trio, as they did when they were founded.
On July 11th, 2006, “One Cold Night” was released, which also includes a DVD. It is an acoustic performance that was recorded in Philadelphia in February. Singer Morgan was ill at the time, and instead of canceling the performance, they decided on this particular performance. In addition to the hits from the albums “Disclaimer” and “Karma And Effect”, the setlist also includes the song “Tied My Hands” from the “Fragile” album and a cover version of Pearl Jam's classic “Immortality”. Since "One Cold Night" was supposed to be an album without swear words, Morgan had the songs "Burrito" and "Needles" removed from the CD. They are available for this purpose as iTunes downloads.
In August 2006, Morgan was admitted to a clinic for treatment of various addictions, forcing the band to cancel a tour with Staind and Three Days Grace . In the fall, Morgan was apparently able to end his stay at the clinic successfully. After Morgan finished the rehab stay, the band began recording their third studio album.
The long awaited third album "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces" was released on October 23, 2007. Once again it was enough for a top 10 position in the US album charts, "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces" reached number 9. The first single, "Fake It", reached both the US mainstream rock charts and the Modern Rock Charts number 1 and thus became the most successful single in the history of the band. "Fake It" is also the theme song of the major event "No Way Out" by World Wrestling Entertainment . Earlier this year, Troy McLawhorn joined the band as the second guitarist. The band could be seen in June 2008 at the Rock am Ring (Nürburgring, near Adenau; June 6) and Rock im Park (Nuremberg; June 7) festivals in Germany. Seether won her first South African Music Award in the "Best Rock: English" category for her album Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces.
In February 2011 it was announced that the next album will be released on May 24th under the title "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray". Singer Morgan later corrected via Twitter that the release date was brought forward to May 17th. The first single "Country Song" was released on March 8, 2011. On the same day it was announced that guitarist Troy McLawhorn had left the band to devote himself to other projects.

On April 29, 2014 Seether introduced Bryan Wickmann as the new guitarist on YouTube . On May 1st, 2014 Seether announced on their website that the next album will be released on July 1st under the title "Isolate and Medicate". The first single "Words As Weapons" was also released as a free download on May 1st.
