Veruca Salt is an American alternative rock - band , which was established in 1993. The band gained popularity in the 1990s through their hits Seether and Volcano Girls . The name of the band comes from the children's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl , "Veruca Salt" is a spoiled daughter of rich parents.
history
The group was founded in 1993 by Louise Post (guitar, vocals) and Nina Gordon (guitar, vocals) in Chicago . After a year and a half of working together on compositions, Gordon's brother Jim Shapiro (drums) and Steve Lack (bass) completed the group.
The first single Seether / All Hail Me was released in 1994, followed by the first LP American Thighs in the same year, which reached gold status . The band's next release was the EP Blow It Out Your Ass It's Veruca Salt , produced by Steve Albini. After the group signed with Geffen Records in 1996 , popularity peaked. The second album Eight Arms to Hold You was released in 1997.
In 1998 Nina Gordon left the band and turned to a solo career. Louise Post then rebuilt the group with the following line-up: Stephen Fitzpatrick (guitar), Suzanne Sokol (bass) and Jimmy Madla (drums). The first album in the new line-up, Resolver , was released in 2000. In the following years there were successful tours and publications (including the fourth album IV in 2006 ), but there were again a number of line-up changes. Until 2013 the band consisted of Louise Post, Nicole Fiorentino (bass), Stephen Fitzpatrick (guitar) and Kellii Scott (drums).
In May 2013, Veruca Salt announced on the official Facebook page the reunion in the original line-up from 1993 to 1998 (Post, Gordon, Shapiro, Lack) and released the album Ghost Notes in July 2015 .
Other projects by former members
After leaving, Nina Gordon got a record deal with Warner , where her first solo album was released in 2000.
Stacy Jones, who had been the band's drummer for two years from 1997, had previously played with Letters to Cleo . He later founded American Hi-Fi , where he is a singer and guitarist.
