Band history
The band was formed in 1990 when Greg McKenna broke up his band to work with Kay Hanley, who was originally intended as a backing vocalist, as the front woman . After the debut album was released in 1993 on a Boston independent label, the band gained increased attention with the second single Here & Now and landed with this song on the very successful soundtrack of the television series Melrose Place . This was followed by a record deal with the major label Warner Music , where the next two albums were released. In 1997, drummer Stacy Jones left the band to join the group Veruca Salt . He was replaced by Tom Polce, who first appeared on the third album, Go! , was heard.
In 1999, Letters to Cleo were in the film 10 Things I Hate About You , in which they also portray the main character's favorite band. The soundtrack to this film contained three songs of the band: a cover of Nick Lowe Cruel to be a child , the Cheap Trick - Cover I Want You To Want Me and Come on .
On May 4th, 2000 Letters to Cleo played their last concert in Boston for the time being. Hanley brought out her first solo album two years later, Scott Riebling worked as bassist for Nina Gordon and worked as a sound engineer on albums by Hanley, American Hi-Fi and Dropkick Murphys, among others, and Eisenstein, who is married to Hanley, also stayed with the music loyally, including as a live musician for Our Lady Peace .
In September 2008 the band announced that they would play some gigs again between November and December.
