Nina Rachel Shapiro Gordon (born November 14, 1967 ) is an American rock musician. She was the singer and guitarist of the band Veruca Salt in the 1990s and has been a solo artist since she left the band.

Life

Nina Gordon was born in 1967 to a Chicago lawyer . She studied art history and French literature at Tufts University . In 1993 she founded the alternative rock band Veruca Salt in Chicago with Louise Post . Gordon's brother Jim Shapiro also got on as a drummer. After two albums, both of which were able to place in the American charts, she left the band in 1998 in an argument.

In the same year she was to be heard as a guest singer on the solo album of the Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha . In 1999 she recorded her first solo album on Maui with producer Bob Rock .

Her next album she recorded with Ethan Johns , but it was not released despite completion. It wasn't until 2006 that a second album was released, Bleeding Heart Graffiti , which was again produced by Bob Rock.

Gordon is married to the musician Jeff Russo and they have two children together.
