Robert "Bob" Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian record producer and sound engineer .

life and career

As a former assistant to Bruce Fairbairn , Rock produced for Mötley Crüe , Queen , Bon Jovi , David Lee Roth and Skid Row, among others . However, he attracted most of the attention through his 14-year collaboration with the band Metallica .

When Jason Newsted announced his departure from Metallica in the spring of 2001, Metallica were left without a bass player. Rock therefore helped out on bass for the 2003 album St. Anger and occasionally appeared with the band until a new bass player was found.

Despite a statement in autumn 2005, in which Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich declared that rock “will probably remain our producer forever”, Metallica worked with Rick Rubin for the album Death Magnetic in 2006 instead .

In 2007 Bob Rock was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame .
