The 2S7 ( GRAY index , Russian Pion peony ; NATO designation M-1975 ) is one in the Soviet Union developed in the early 1970s, heavy gun on self-propelled gun . With a caliber of 203 mm and a combat weight of 46 t, it is the world's heaviest conventional artillery piece.
history
In 1975 she was put into service with the Soviet Army and used in the artillery regiments of the fronts . Its counterpart in the arsenal of NATO countries was the 203 mm howitzer M110 .
construction
The 2S7 has a chassis that is derived from the hull of the T-64 main battle tank . It has a torsion bar sprung support roller drive. The crew's armored cabin is at the bow, with the gun behind it. In order to increase the stability when shooting, there is a hydraulically operated earth spur at the rear , and it is also possible to lower the vehicle with the tub to the ground , similar to the Karl mortar .
The weapon has a screw cap and a mechanical loader that allows a rate of fire of two rounds per minute. Four shots can be carried on the 2S7 and eight shots on the improved version 2S7M Malka . The range for firing standard ammunition is 37.7 km, for extended range ammunition 47 km. In 2015, a modernized "2S7SM" version of the self-propelled gun was officially introduced in the Russian army. Their firing interval is up to 3 shots per minute, with rocket-supported projectiles a projectile range of 55 kilometers is achieved.
