The Moffatts were a US-Canadian musical group that consisted of members of a family.

Members

  • Scott Moffatt (born Scott Andrew Moffatt , born March 30, 1983 in Whitehorse , Yukon , Canada )
  • Clint Moffatt (own Clinton Thomas John Moffatt , born March 8, 1984 in Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada)
  • Bob Moffatt ( Robert Franklin Peter Moffatt , born March 8, 1984 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
  • Dave Moffatt (born David Michael William Moffatt , born March 8, 1984 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)

history

In the mid-1980s, shortly after the birth of their youngest brothers, the family moved from Canada to the United States . The first activities as a group took place in 1992, due to the influence of her mother Darlana Moffatt , who is also a country musician. After a few appearances in Las Vegas , the brothers get their first record deal, the first country album It's a Wonderful World was released in 1993 . The first editions appeared under the name The Moffatt Brothers , later re-releases, however, carried The Moffatts as the band name. The second album followed in 1995, The Moffatts - in both cases the guys only contributed the vocals. Video clips have already been released for the titles Guns of Love and I Think She Likes Me (both 1995) . Frank Moffatt's father was his sons' manager from the start .

Probably on the initiative of the record company EMI , an image change took place in mid-1997: from country it went more towards pop, and so on December 10, 1997 the first single I'll Be There for You was released in Germany . The ballad Miss You Like Crazy followed in February 1998 , and the accompanying album Chapter One: A New Beginning was finally released in May . In Germany, the band was initially moderately successful, also favored by the flood of young musicians that were triggered at the time, such as the obvious style role model Hanson , Gil Ofarim , Aaron Carter , Take 5 and the long-standing successful boy groups Backstreet Boys and * NSYNC .

In 1998, the Scorpions lighting designer , Lars Wulff , was brought on board for the right appearance . He accompanied the band for two years on tours through Europe, Asia and North America.

This was followed by three more single releases, Crazy , If Life Is So Short and Girl of My Dreams , as well as the single If you only knew together with Gil Ofarim . For the US market, a revised version of the album Chapter One was produced at the end of 1998 , which contained some new songs; including the single Misery , which was co-written by Klaus Heuser from the German band BAP . The new songs went much more towards rock from the previously rather quiet pieces.

In August 2000 the last album Submodalities was released in Germany, but it was not a success in Germany. The album was produced by Metallica producer Bob Rock , which once again had a significant impact on the style of the band: they adapted more to the role models Metallica and Nirvana . After the album there was another tour through Germany, after which the Moffatts limited themselves to the American and Asian markets. Submodalities still had some success, especially in Asia .

At the end of 2001, the musical collaboration between the brothers was initially largely put on hold. There was no official information on this, but a connection with Dave's coming out is suspected . Since then, Scott has formed The Boston Post with some friends , Clint and Bob are active at Hidell . Many of the songs on Hidell's first album , however, were co-written by Scott.

In an interview on October 4, 2004, Clint Moffatt stated that he and Bob and Scott Moffatt wanted to be musically active together with Boston Post drummer Steve Hotchkiss, but without Dave Moffatt and no longer under the name The Moffatts . From October to December 2004 the brothers were on tour with Hotchkiss in Canada and also played some new pieces at the concerts.

Follow-up band

Hidell

Hidell was Clint and Bob's band from 2003 to 2004. Other members of the band were Paul Cimolini (electric guitar) and Christopher Ainsley (vocals). The band's first album was released by EMI Music in 2004, after some delays. In the early stages of the band Shaun MacPherson (instead of Ainsley) was there, who co-wrote some of the songs released on the album; another co-author was Scott Moffatt. Musically, the band offered different styles between mid-tempo and rock. In 2003 the first album was released under the title Up & Coming . Due to a lack of marketing and "creative differences", the band separated again some time later.

Same seed

Bob and Clint Moffatt have lived in Thailand since 2005 and are involved, among other things, in a program that aims to impart English language skills. Also in Thailand in 2006 they released their first album together, The Meaning of Happy . The current band name is Same Same . There were a number of Thai guest musicians on the album. The second single, Love Isn't , made it to number 1 on the Thai airplay charts.

The Boston Post

Together with Shawn Everett, Jon Gant, Steve Hotchkiss and Ryan Lynch, Scott Moffatt was active in the band The Boston Post since 2002 . So far there has only been one EP from this band and rumors are growing that it will stay with this release. The band's website, which had existed in the meantime, was abandoned.

Scott Moffatt

During the last year Scott Moffatt released the album The Allegory of the City with his solo project . The album was not only written by Scott, but also produced himself. In the absence of a record deal, Scott sells the album together with his street team on his own website (see below ).
