Take 5 was an American boy band .

history

In November 1997, the then Backstreet Boys manager Johnny Wright placed a newspaper advertisement in which he was looking for a new boy band. From hundreds of applicants, he selected the Minneapolis- based brothers Ryan and Clay and their friend TJ, Stevie from Miami and Tilky from South Carolina.

In March 1998 the band performed at a benefit concert for tornado victims in Orlando , where the Backstreet Boys could also be seen. Around this time they also became known for their single I Give . The single was about a girl named Danielle, who played the youngest members of the band and best friends TJ and Clay against each other and thus put their friendship in danger.

In the same year they toured Germany together with Aaron Carter , Gil , 911 and No Authority . In the course of this they were promoted by Bravo TV , among others , who arranged a fan meeting with you at the Warner Bros. Movie World theme park , Bottrop .

Although the band performed on stage without any instruments, the members certainly did master instruments. Ryan was a trained concert pianist who had already won many awards. Clay played keyboard while TJ played guitar and tilky drums. The band also composed their a cappella number Candle themselves.

The band members were already involved in various projects before Take 5:

  • TJ Christofore won an edition of the US Star Search in 1995 and appeared in various stage productions such as the Broadway production Les Miserables . He also sang in 1996 at a Christmas party in the White House in front of then President Bill Clinton . He sang in the Minneapolis Boys Choir with the Goodell brothers .
  • Sculthorpe worked as a model and shot some commercials e.g. B. for ice cream and lemonade.
  • Ryan and Clay Goodell are trained concert pianists and also played in various theater productions at a very young age. B. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol , a Minnesota theater production.
  • Jones used to be a drama member and was a member of the Equity Drama Union . In addition, he also made some commercials One for Bush Gardens , an amusement park in Tampa , Florida . He was also the drummer for the ska-punk band User Friendly .
