The MSC Orchestra is a cruise ship operated by the MSC Cruises shipping company .
history
The MSC Orchestra is the second cruise ship after the MSC Musica which belongs to the Musica class. It was built at Aker Yards shipyard , Saint-Nazaire , under number R32. As with other MSC ships, the De Jorio Design International design studio was responsible for the interior design. This design has become the trademark of MSC cruise ships.
The floating in the shipyard took place on September 9, 2006. After the interior work and the technical equipment had been completed, the sea trials began on March 22, 2007. The trips started from Saint-Nazaire and led through the Bay of Biscay in the Atlantic . A maximum speed of 23 knots was determined. A total of 350 people were involved in the test.
On April 30, 2007, the MSC Orchestra was handed over to MSC Crociere. On May 5, 2007, the transfer from Saint-Nazaire to Civitavecchia began . The christening was carried out on May 14, 2007 at 8 p.m. by the actress Sophia Loren in Civitavecchia. During the baptism, music by Ennio Morricone was played to match fireworks . The maiden voyage started on June 2, 2007 from Venice .

Her maiden voyage was in June 2007 from Venice to the Mediterranean. In the summer months 2009, 2010 and 2011, cruises to Norway and the Baltic Sea were offered from Copenhagen and Kiel . Between spring and autumn 2012 and 2013, the MSC Orchestra sails the western Mediterranean . In 2014 the ship returned to Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea. For a long time it has been used in winter on the east coast of South America .

Sister ships
The MSC Musica , whose maiden voyage began on July 1, 2007, is a sister ship of the MSC Orchestra . The third ship in the Musica class is the MSC Poesia , which entered service on April 6, 2008. The MSC Magnifica has been traveling since March 1, 2010 . The maiden voyage led from Saint-Nazaire to Hamburg on March 6, 2010, where the ship was christened .

The MSC Orchestra has twenty lifeboats with a capacity of 3,000 people and 93 life rafts with a capacity of 2,325 people. The ship has 5,925 life jackets for adults, 800 for children (up to 43 kg), 175 for babies and 75 for overweight passengers. There are 559 fire extinguishers (CO 2 and powder) on the entire ship . The technical equipment includes an X- and S-band radar system ( ARPA ) with a range of 48 nautical miles (77 km), Doppler sonar (Dolog), an electromagnetic speed log system (EM Log) and an echo sounder system . The ship also has an automatic identification system (AIS). All systems are available several times for fail-safety .
For the maximum comfort of the passengers, the ship was equipped with the MABS system (Multi Air Blowing System). In this system, nozzles are placed under the stern that create an air cushion. This acts as a damper between the hull and the vibrations at the stern generated by the propellers. The background noise of the diesel engines is also reduced by 5 dB .
Trivia
When the ship was in Dover , England , in 2010 , eight passengers, four Bulgarians and four Lithuanians, were arrested after 35 kg of cocaine were found. In early 2011 all were sentenced to several years in prison.
