The MSC Lirica is a cruise ship owned by the MSC Crociere SA shipping company. The shipping company's first new build project was classified by Bureau Veritas and entered in the Panamanian shipping register. The MSC Lirica was run as the flagship of the shipping company until the MSC Musica was commissioned in 2006 .
history
Construction and commissioning
The ship was built with hull number K32 at the ALSTOM Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire and delivered to the shipping company on March 24, 2003. The ship was christened in the port of Naples by Sophia Loren .
commitment
After the commissioning, the MSC Lirica was used for cruises in the Mediterranean . In the summer of 2013 she was traveling in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. In winter she went to the Caribbean until February 2013 , but from the end of 2013 she is to be used instead from Dubai in the Persian Gulf, where she was already in use with similar cruises over the winter season 2011/2012.
From August 31 to November 4, 2015, the MSC Lirica was extended to 275 meters by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and equipped with more modern technology and new options for entertaining guests. As part of the shipping company's so-called “renaissance program”, the maximum number of passengers allowed was increased to 2680 by adding around 200 additional cabins for both her and all other ships in her class.
From May 2016, MSC Lirica was the first ship in the fleet to operate exclusively on the Chinese market. It drove from Tianjin , the port of Beijing , as well as from Shanghai , Qingdao and Dalian to South Korea and Japan. From April 2018 she will take over the MSC Adria route from Venice .
Incidents
During a cast-off maneuver in Civitavecchia , the MSC Lirica was pressed against the pier facilities on November 2, 2007 in strong winds and damaged in the bow area on the port side . The ship was repaired in dry dock between November 12 and 17, 2007 and returned to Fort Lauderdale on December 4 .
Machine system and drive
The diesel-electric machine system at MSC Lirica consists of four generator sets , each of which has a 12-cylinder series 38 diesel engine from the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä coupled with a generator. The generator sets supply the entire ship with electrical energy. The waste heat from the engines is used to treat drinking water , among other things .
The actual driving of the vessel via two spaced rear azimuth thruster type Rolls-Royce "Mermaid" (dt. Mermaid ). The electric motors built into the gondolas drive the fixed propellers . This technology enables a high degree of maneuverability and develops only low vibrations and noises.
Cabins and on-board facilities
With the exception of the sun deck, the nine passenger decks of the MSC Lirica are named after famous Italian composers. The interior of the ship was designed by the Italian architecture firm De Jorio. The ship has 780 cabins, which are divided into four categories and housed in the superstructure. With the exception of the suites , they are the same size and furnishings. The 372 outside cabins are equipped with large windows. The 132 suites have a balcony. Four inside cabins are barrier-free. There are currently 30 outside cabins on this cruise ship with sight obstructions by lifeboats .
The MSC Lirica is equipped with four restaurants , eight different bars and salons and a disco . The theater ("The Broadway Theater") extends over two decks and offers over 700 seats. The spa and wellness area covers an area of over 900 square meters.
