In January 2013, the ship was taken out of service and when Qing after India sold where it then rested .

history

Atlantic

The Atlantic was built in 1982 under the hull number 1432 at the CNIM shipyard in La Seyne-sur-Mer on the French Mediterranean coast for Home Lines and was launched on January 9, 1981 as the first newbuild by the shipping company since the 1965 Oceanic . It replaced the Doric , which went into service in 1964 and which was taken over by Home Lines in 1973. In 1988 the ship was decommissioned and offered for sale after the shipping company was dissolved.

StarShip Atlantic

As StarShip Atlantic in Nassau, November 1989

The US-American shipping company Premier Cruises became the new owner of the ship and renamed it StarShip Atlantic and painted its hull in a significant red, like all units in its fleet. The StarShip Atlantic was henceforth used in the Caribbean . In May 1997 the ship was sold to Westria Holdings, based in Switzerland, for its subsidiary MSC Cruises.

Melody

As Melody in La Goulette, October 2009

In the same month, the former StarShip Atlantic was modernized in Durban and put into service as Melody . The new area of operation for the ship registered in Panama was the Mediterranean . In the meantime, however, it was also used for cruises in Asia.

On April 25, 2009, the ship was attacked by Somali pirates while cruising the Indian Ocean near the Seychelles . Passengers and an Israeli security company that was hired to drive through the risk area off Somalia were able to repel the attack by the pirates. Forces of Operation Atalanta arrived only after the attack had been successfully repelled, but were able to pursue and locate the pirates.

In January 2013, was Melody decommissioned and Naples launched . All of the ship's cruises scheduled for summer 2013 have been canceled. The ship had previously been used for several years in summer in the eastern Mediterranean and in winter between Durban and Mauritius.

Qing

At the end of 2013, the ship was sold to India and transferred to India as Qing under the Indian flag, where it was to be used for mini cruises and as a casino. However, the plans could not be implemented because the responsible provincial government of Goa did not issue a license to operate a casino. The Qing has since been in a shipyard in the port of Mormugao .

On June 29, 2016, there was a possible ingress of water on board due to heavy rainfall, which caused the ship to list and threaten to overturn. On July 1st, the ship, which was now lying on the eight and a half meter deep bottom of the harbor basin, was stabilized. An oil barrier was placed around the ship to prevent contamination from leaking oil.

Since the shipping company no longer took care of the ship, an attempt was made to auction the ship. However, there was no interested party. The Port Authority of Mormugao then applied for the ship to be declared a wreck so that it could be removed and scrapped. On May 11, 2019, the ship was stranded in Alang for demolition .

Machine system

The ship is powered by two two- stroke ten-cylinder diesel engines made by Fiat . The engines with an output of 11,190  kW each were built in 1980 by Grandi Motori in Trieste . They act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship thus reaches a speed of 20  knots .

Four diesel generators with an output of 6,800 kW ( apparent power : 8,500  kVA ) and a generator with an output of 320 kW (apparent power: 400 kVA) are available for the power supply.
