The MSC Seaside is a cruise ship operated by MSC Cruises . It is the lead ship of the Seaside class of the same name , the fifth generation of MSC Crociere ships. The ship, which can hold a good 5,300 passengers, is the second new building as part of the MSC investment and growth program. The MSC Seaside is the largest cruise ship ever built in Italy.
history
On May 22nd, 2014 MSC Cruises ordered two newbuildings from the Italian shipyard Fincantieri under the project name "Seaside" with delivery in November 2017 and May 2018, the MSC Seaside and the MSC Seaview . The contract also included the option of a third ship of this class. The ship is based on Fincantieri's Project Mille design .
Construction of the ship began with the first steel cut on June 22, 2015 in Monfalcone . The ship was laid down on March 4, 2016. The traditional minting ceremony took place on April 21, 2016. The floating of the ship followed on November 26, 2016.
On November 29, 2017, the MSC Seaside was handed over by Fincantieri as the largest ship in Italy and the largest ship built by Fincantieri to MSC Cruises. The ship was put into service in Trieste on December 1, 2017 .
After the transfer to Miami, the ship was christened on December 21, 2017 in Miami by Sophia Loren . Singer Ricky Martin and tenor Andrea Bocelli performed during the baptism . The former American football star of the Miami Dolphins Dan Marino was also present as a guest star . Mario Lopez was the host of the christening event.
The construction of this prototype, like the construction of the MSC Seaview , costs around 700 million euros.
When the MSC Seaside was delivered, the shipping company and shipyard announced that two more ships in the Seaside class had been ordered. These are a further development of the Seaside class, which is why it is also known as the Seaside Evo class. They should be delivered in 2021 and 2023.
Furnishing
The MSC Seaside has a wide range of entertainment. It was developed for warm sailing areas and has over 13,000 square meters of outdoor areas. The ship is about 70 meters high.
Pools
The outdoor pools on board include the Miami Beach pool on deck 16, the South Beach pool at the stern of the ship on deck 7 and the exclusive pool of the MSC Yacht Club on deck 19.
The Jungle Pool is a roof-top pool on deck 18.
Waterfront Boardwalk
The Waterfront Boardwalk is the 360 ° promenade on decks 7 and 8. Various bars and restaurants can be found on this promenade. This area also includes a pool and the two port and starboard Infinity Bridges , two glass bridges over the sea. The lifeboats of MSC Seaside were specially housed below this promenade for this promenade.
Forest Aquaventure Park
The Forest Aquaventure Park is an aqua park with four water slides and a mix of adventure playground and children's pools. This area can be found on deck 18 directly by the chimney.
There is also a 120 meter long zip line that ends at the stern of the ship. It is considered to be the longest zip line at sea.
entertainment
The ship has a theater with 934 seats, the Metropolitan Theater . There should be four performances every day. In addition, the ship has two full-size bowling lanes, a baby club, a mini and junior club and a teens club. There is also a casino on board with the Miami Casino.
Others
There are nine different restaurants on board the ship, including two main restaurants, two buffet restaurants and various specialty restaurants, as well as 20 bars and lounges.
At the stern of the ship there are panoramic elevators and a 30 meter long glass bridge, the Bridge of Sighs .
Concept and commitment
The MSC Seaside was designed as a “ship that follows the sun”. This primarily means that the largest possible number of outdoor areas is offered. For this reason, this ship and its sister ships are planned to be used in warmer regions, such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, instead of in colder regions.
The MSC Seaside is to be stationed in Miami all year round and sail to destinations in the Caribbean. As part of the expansion of MSC Crociere in North America and the stationing of several ships in the Caribbean, a private island is currently being prepared, the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve . This is to open from October 2018 and MSC Seaside will call it weekly.
