The MSC Preziosa is the fourth cruise ship in the Fantasia class . Like the other ships in the class, she sails under the Panamanian flag . Her sister ships are the MSC Divina and the slightly smaller MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida . The ship originally ordered by the Libyan government was sold to MSC Cruises in 2012 and put into service in 2013.

The MSC Preziosa is the 13th ship in the MSC fleet. Like her sister ships, she was built by STX France Cruise in Saint-Nazaire .

history

At the equipment quay in Saint-Nazaire (March 2013)

On June 4, 2010, a letter of intent was signed between STX France and the Libyan state-owned GNMTC ( General National Maritime Transport Company ) to build a cruise ship that would be an enlarged version of the MSC Fantasia and the MSC Splendida .

The ship was supposed to contain a shark aquarium with a capacity of 120  tons , gold-rimmed mirrors, Swarowski chandeliers and marble floors and was originally named Phenicia . After the Arab Spring and the associated political changes, there was no customer for the ship. It was nevertheless completed and the contract with MSC Cruises to take over the ship was announced in spring 2012. The installation of the aquarium was canceled; other luxury facilities remained.

On March 23, 2013, the MSC Preziosa was christened with a ceremony in the port of Genoa . The ship's godmother was the Italian actress Sophia Loren . Other star guests included Gino Paoli and the film composer and conductor Ennio Morricone , who gave musical accompaniment to the christening of the MSC Preziosa . With the MSC Opera and the MSC Splendida , two other ships belonging to MSC Cruises were present at the christening in Genoa.

The MSC Preziosa is used in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and the Brazilian coast.

Furnishing

The ship has three main restaurants, various themed bars, a theater, a 4D cinema, a disco, a casino, a video game world, a bowling alley, a spa, a children's club and a fitness center.

On the deck of the MSC Preziosa there is the “infinity pool” and two other pools as well as a 120 meter long water slide, which was not included in the original construction plans of the ship and was only added after the takeover by MSC.

Sister ships

The MSC Preziosa has three almost identical sister ships. The MSC Fantasia was christened as a type ship on December 18, 2008 in Naples. On July 12, 2009, the MSC Splendida was christened in Barcelona . The maiden voyage took place from July 13th to 18th, 2009. In May 2012 the MSC Divina added to the fleet; the ship was christened on May 26, 2012 in Marseille . At 139,072 GT, the MSC Preziosa is slightly larger than the first two ships in the class, while the MSC Divina has the same tonnage and dimensions as its newer sister ship.
