PAX is an auxiliary unit of measurement for the number of passengers in shipping, aviation, for guests in the hotel industry and in event technology for visitors to events of all kinds. For shipping companies or airlines , the abbreviation “PAX” stands for passengers.

In aviation, even on purely private flights, a strict distinction is made between crew or pilots and passengers (for example when determining the number of passengers ): Every passenger who is not part of the crew is a "passenger" or, according to the ICAO code, "PAX".

In event planning, one also speaks of pax / sqm. Depending on whether an event is seated or danced or not, there are pax numbers from 1 to 5 ("packed house") per square meter.
