The MSC Meraviglia is a cruise ship operated by the Swiss shipping company MSC Cruises and the first ship in the Meraviglia class . At the time of commissioning was MSC Meraviglia after the ships of the Oasis class of Royal Caribbean International , the largest cruise ship.
history
The type ship of the “Vista” project was commissioned with reservations on March 20, 2014 together with the then also unnamed MSC Bellissima . Construction of the MSC Meraviglia began on April 20, 2015. The name of the ship was also announced during this construction start.
The keel-laying took place in 2015 at STX France Cruise SA in Saint-Nazaire . The traditional minting ceremony followed on February 1, 2016. The new building was floated on September 2, 2016.
On May 31, 2017, the ship was delivered to MSC Cruises. The commissioning took place on June 3, 2017. On June 3, the ship was christened in Le Havre on the 500th anniversary of the port by Sophia Loren .
Furnishing
The ship has a crew of 1,536, who look after up to 5,714 passengers. The passengers are accommodated on eight decks in 2,244 cabins. Three decks are reserved for staff. The ship has a total of 18 decks.
The Galleria Meraviglia is a central location on decks 6 and 7. This is an almost 100-meter-long promenade with an LED sky that extends over both decks. Located on this promenade are several bars and lounges, as well as shops, boutiques and restaurants.
The ship has a theater, the Broadway Theater , with 985 seats. Also on board at the stern is the Carousel Lounge, a theater specially developed for the Cirque du Soleil . Two different shows specially designed for the MSC Meraviglia will be performed.
In a large entertainment area on deck 16 and 18, there are seven different children's clubs and a sports hall. Also in this area is a sports bar with two full- size bowling alleys , two Formula 1 simulators , a 4-D cinema and a flight simulator .
The water park on deck 19 has three water slides , a climbing park and a water playground for children. In total, the MSC Meraviglia has four outdoor pools , one roof-top pool and 9 public whirlpools .
The spa area has a size of 1,100 m². It consists of 22 treatment rooms , various saunas and relaxation rooms. The MSC Meraviglia also has a 570 m² gym and a power walking route on deck.
There are twelve different restaurants on the ship. In addition to a self-service restaurant, this includes several main restaurants and specialty restaurants that require additional payment. There are also 20 bars and lounges on board.
The MSC Meraviglia is the first ship on which MSC implemented the digital innovation program MSC for Me . The ship is equipped with 16,000 contact points and 700 hot spots, 358 interactive screens and 2,244 NFC door openers. As part of the program, the first completely self-sufficient mobile indoor navigation based on Bluetooth was implemented on the ship .
commitment
In the first season and in the winter of 2017/18 the ship was used in the western Mediterranean from Genoa.
In the summer of 2018, the MSC Meraviglia from Genoa was replaced by the new MSC Seaview and stationed in Hamburg . From here she set out on various cruises to Ireland and Great Britain , the Baltic Sea, Norway and Western Europe.
