Isaäc "Iekje" Arend Diepenhorst (born July 18, 1916 in Rotterdam ; † August 21, 2004 in Zeist , Utrecht province ) was a Dutch law scholar , university professor and politician of the Anti-Revolutionaire Partij (ARP) and most recently the Christian Democratisch Appèl ( CDA), who taught for several decades at the Free University of Amsterdam , was a member of both chambers of the States General and was temporarily a minister. Furthermore, he wrote numerous works that dealt not only with legal issues but also above all with interreligious dialogue .

Life

University professors and social engagement

After visiting the Christelijk Lyceum in Zeist in 1934, Diepenhorst began studying theology and law at the Free University of Amsterdam. In 1943 he completed his doctorate there as a Dr. jur. with a dissertation on the historical-critical bijdrage tot den leer van den christelijkenstaat and was subsequently assistant to Victor Henri Rutgers , who held the chair for Roman law and criminal law at the Free University of Amsterdam.

On October 10, 1945 Diepenhorst himself accepted a professorship for criminal law and criminal procedure law at the Free University of Amsterdam and taught there until April 14, 1965. In addition to his teaching activities, he worked as a columnist for the broadcasting company Nederlandse Christelijke Radio-Vereniging between 1951 and 1953 ( NCRV) and was active from 1951 to 1954 as a board member of Bartiméus , an association for the blind, visually impaired and multiply handicapped, and since January 1953 as a member of the editorial board of the central weekly newspaper of Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland . Member of the First Chamber and Minister

At the same time he began his political career in the early 1950s and represented the interests of the Anti-Revolutionaire Partij (ARP) in the First Chamber of the States General between July 15, 1952 and April 14, 1965 . During this time, from October 1, 1954 to 1955, he became a member of the State Commission for the Revision of the Law of Foreign Policy Relations, headed by Roelof Kranenburg , and as a member of the Committee for the Support of Public Welfare Work in 1958. During his membership in parliament he was from February 1959 until September 1961 secretary of the parliamentary group of the ARP.

In addition, he served as Rector of the Free University of Amsterdam from September 21, 1960 to September 20, 1961 . Diepenhorst, who was head of a forum for NRCV television in the 1960s, served between 1961 and 1965 at the same time as a member of the Education Council, as chairman of the inter-church commission for pastoral care in prisons and as chairman of the association for probation assistance.
